Capitol Reef National Park and the Fishlake National Forest dominate this high-desert topography in central Utah. The landscape is defined by the massive monocline of the Water Pocket Fold, a dramatic geological feature that shapes the local drainages and ridges. To the north, the monoliths of Cathedral Mtn, Needle Mtn, and the formations known as the Cathedrals rise above the basin floor, providing stark landmarks for the sparse network of unpaved tracks including Cathedral Road and Hartnet Road.
