Gould Reservoir and Bottle Stomp Reservoir sit amidst a complex network of high-altitude water management features in this part of Montrose County. The landscape is defined by the transition from the protected depths of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and the Curecanti National Recreation Area in the southwest to the higher reaches of the Gunnison National Forest in the east. Irrigation infrastructure, vital for this arid high country, is prominently marked by the Fruitland Mesa Ditch, Cattlemans Ditch, and Crystal Valley Ditch.
