Bruneau Canyon and the high desert of Owyhee County define this part of Idaho, where the Bruneau River and Sheep Creek have cut deep, meandering paths through the volcanic plateau. This 2013 survey illustrates the dramatic geological formations of the Big Bend of Sheep Creek and the sharp relief of J-P Point. The landscape is punctuated by isolated water sources such as Catholic Lake and Brumaga Lake, which sit below the prominent rise of Catholic Butte. To the north and south, the Blackstone Desert and J-P Desert span the open range. The map captures the specialized geography of Bighorn Country, where drainage features like Cave Draw and Big Lake Draw provide the primary topographical variance across the sagebrush-covered plains of Monument Butte.
