About this map

Payette National Forest dominates this high-elevation terrain in Idaho, characterized by a complex network of steep ridges and deep drainage basins mapped in the early 1970s. The landscape is defined by landmarks such as Center Mtn and Snowslide Peak, with the lower elevations marked by the confluence of the North Fork Monumental Creek and the West Fork Monumental Creek. A single Prospect and the Thunder City (Site) suggest a history of remote mountain activity and former settlement that had largely receded by the time of this survey. Transportation through this backcountry relies heavily on the Center Mtn (Pack) Trail and the Monumental Pack Trail, which follow the contours of the Snowslide Ridge and the winding course of Monumental Creek. These trails, along with the Simonds Landing Strip, provide the primary access to these isolated peaks and narrow gulches.
