Chanute serves as the central hub of this 2015 survey, situated just south of the Allen and Neosho county line. The city's landscape is defined by its educational and civic infrastructure, including the Neosho County Community College campus and the Chanute Martin Johnson Airport on its western edge. The Neosho River meanders through the eastern portion of the quadrangle, flanked by numerous small tributaries like Village Creek and Little Turkey Creek. To the north, the small community of Petrolia sits near the riverbanks, a remnant of the region's earlier development. This modern snapshot preserves the locations of several community burial grounds, such as Saint Patricks Cem and Elmwood Cem, alongside recreational waters including Santa Fe Lake and Allen Lake.
