Steptoe Valley dominates the eastern expanse of this survey, where the Nevada Northern railroad cuts a straight line through the high desert floor toward Cherry Creek Station. To the west, the Cherry Creek Range rises sharply, its eastern slopes carved by deep drainages such as Barton Canyon and Silver Canyon. This landscape reveals a history of water management and resource extraction, with numerous desert hydrologic features like Madelina Spring, Holloway Spring, and the Steptoe Waterhole supporting the scattered ranching and industrial activity.

Evidence of early habitation and labor is scattered across the flats and foothills, from the isolated Foppiano Ranch to the industrial Borrow Pit and various prospects along the canyon mouths. A small Cem and unidentified Ruins suggest a more settled past near the mountain front, while a remote Landing Strip indicates the continued importance of aerial access in this expansive corner of White Pine County during the early 1980s.
