The Cisco Historic District serves as the focal point for this survey of northern Eastland County, where the street grid of Cisco meets the educational campus of Cisco Coll. The landscape is a study in natural drainage and resource extraction, characterized by the N Fork Leon River and the Middle Fork Leon River winding through the southern half of the map. Northward, the elevation rises toward Cedar Mtn and Flat Top Mtn, overlooking the recreational waters of Lake Cisco. This era of the region’s development is clearly marked by the industrial footprints of the Bankline Owens Oil Field and the Kleiner Oil Field, which underscore the historical importance of the petroleum industry to the local economy. Researchers will find significant genealogical value in the locations of Oakwood Cem, Reagan Cem, and Bedford Cem.
