The upper reaches of the McKenzie River dominate this late-twentieth-century landscape, defined by a dramatic volcanic history visible in the extensive Lava fields. Public recreation is central to this area, with the Coldwater Cove Campground and a Boat Ramp serving visitors to Clear Lake. Further downstream, the river passes over Sahalie Falls and Koosah Falls, while Icecap Spring and the Carmen Reservoir indicate the complex hydrology of the region.
