About this map

Sheyenne River meanders through the southeastern portion of this landscape, carving a distinct valley through the prairie terrain of Ransom and Richland counties. Much of the southern half of the map is dedicated to the Sheyenne National Grassland, a protected area of sandy soil and native vegetation that contrasts with the sectioned agricultural plots to the north. The small settlement of Coburn sits near the northern boundary, while the township of Helendale occupies the northeastern corner. In the south, the Owego area features the Owego Ch, a localized landmark serving the surrounding rural population. The map provides a detailed view of the transition from open range and river bottomland to the organized township grids of the late twentieth century.
