Pine Ridge dominates the northern horizon of this Dawes County landscape, where the high plains meet a complex network of canyons and buttes. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevations such as Coffee Mill Butte and Flag Butte, which overlook the winding course of Dead Horse Creek. This 2011 survey documents a region dedicated largely to outdoor recreation and water management, centered around the Chadron Reservoir and Chadron Reservoir Number 2.
