1970 Map of Columbia South

USGS Topo · Published 1982

About this map

The Pearl River snakes through the center of this Marion County landscape, defining the topography and settlement patterns of the early 1970s. Along its western banks, the Illinois Central Gulf railroad connects several small communities including Foxworth, Jamestown, and Cheraw. The river valley is characterized by numerous oxbows and a concentrated gravel industry, as evidenced by the proliferation of Gravel Pits north near Lovelace and south toward Pickwick.
