Mahogany Hills dominates the eastern half of this terrain, where the high desert landscape is deeply incised by a network of drainages including Browns Canyon, Denio Canyon, and Dougherty Canyon. This 1987 field-checked study captures a remote section of Nevada defined by the transition from the broad, flat Antelope Valley to the prominent heights of Table Mountain and Combs Peak.

Evidence of mining history is preserved at the Silver King Mine and Angelo Belli Mine along the western slopes of the hills. Water access, critical for both ranching and prospecting in this arid environment, is noted at isolated points like Ardans Well and the Stock Tank Well.
