The dramatic geological formation of Abert Rim dominates the western edge of this Lake County landscape, where the high desert terrain meets a series of isolated basins and seasonal water sources. The area is defined by the central Commodore Ridge, which separates numerous small lakes and livestock waterholes. Local hydrology is characterized by ephemeral features such as Commodore Lake, Skookum Lake, and Foley Lake, along with specifically named resources like Feather Bed Lake Waterhole and Soup Lake Waterhole. These water points represent the critical infrastructure of the high desert range economy. The road network is sparse, consisting primarily of Hogback Rd and Corn Lake Rd, which navigate the elevation changes between the rim and the ridge. To the south, drainage is marked by Foley Cr and Rabbit Cr, feeding toward the distinctive Twin Lakes at the base of the ridge system.
