Laurel Marsh and the surrounding wetlands dominate this landscape where the boundaries of Clare, Missaukee, and Roscommon counties converge. The drainage of Bear Creek and Wolf Cr feeds into the Muskegon River, which winds through the western portion of the quadrangle. Human settlement is sparse, concentrated primarily at the crossroads of Cooperton and the community of Wilson Grove further south.

Evidence of the area's recreational and agricultural character is seen in the dense network of trails and rural roads such as Paddle Trl, Ogemaw Trl, and Carp Trl. Water features are central to the geography here, from the wide expanse of Grass Lake to smaller isolated bodies like Rice Pond and Mud Lake.
