Colville National Forest dominates this section of the Kettle River Range in Ferry County, where the high-altitude landscape is defined by a series of prominent peaks and ridgelines. The Pacific NW National Scenic Trail winds through the western half of the terrain, crossing near the summit of Copper Butte and continuing south toward Sherman Pass. The presence of the Old Stage road and several Forest Service development routes indicates the historical importance of transit and timber management in this upland environment.
