Chugach National Forest land meets the tides along the northern coast of the Gulf of Alaska in this recent survey. The landscape is defined by the interaction between tidal flats and barrier features, most notably the shifting Copper Sands that front the open ocean. These sandy reaches form a protective barrier for the complex network of wetlands and tidal inlets further inland.
