The Continental Divide winds through this high-altitude landscape on the border of McKinley and Cibola Counties, cutting a path between deep drainages and rugged rimlands. Much of the southern half of the quadrangle is protected within the Cibola National Forest, where the terrain transitions from the steep Lookout Mountain Rim to the hidden corridors of Peavine Canyon and Monighan Canyon.
