Cowboy Mesa rises above the drainage networks of northern Lincoln County, where seasonal watercourses define the high desert landscape. The terrain is marked by a series of significant arroyos and draws, including the southern flows of Gallo Arroyo and its tributary Cola del Gallo Arroyo. These features, along with Corn Draw and Buck Draw, indicate the complex hydrological patterns essential to life and ranching in this arid environment. Transportation through this remote stretch is limited to rural routes like Co Rd 8020 and Co Rd 8021, which skirt the edges of the mesa. Isolated water management points such as Clarence Tank underscore the importance of water storage in supporting local livestock and wildlife. This 2023 survey provides a modern look at the land division and natural topography within Townships 2 and 3 South, Ranges 17 and 18 East.
