Salt Lake dominates the central basin of this high-desert landscape in the late 1980s, serving as a focal point for resource extraction in Saline Valley. The presence of a Salt Evaporator and several scattered water sources like Gervias Well and a Flowing Well highlight the critical role of water management in this arid environment. To the west, the steep slopes are carved by numerous drainages, including Keynot Canyon and Beveridge Canyon, where early industrial efforts are evidenced by the Big Silver Mine, Trepier Mine, and an intriguing Cable Way. These features, along with various Prospects and the Vega Mine, reflect a history of mineral exploration and the logistical challenges of hauling ore from the canyons down to the valley floor.
