Craig serves as the primary settlement in this corner of Holt County, situated on the edge of the Missouri River floodplain. The landscape is defined by its complex drainage history, particularly the presence of the Old Channel Little Tarkio Cr and the Old Channel Little Tarkio River, which illustrate the shifting watercourses of the region. Local history is anchored by several burial sites, including the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery near the town center and the Tharp Cemetery and New Liberty Cemetery in the surrounding rural sections. Moving away from the floodplain, the terrain rises into hills dissected by Wildcat Cr and Squaw Cr, with Nauman Lake providing a notable upland water feature. A grid of county roads such as Iron Wood Rd and Elmwood Rd provides access to the agricultural hinterland.
