The high plains of Richland County are defined by a network of drainage systems that carve through the local topography. Lone Tree Cr and its tributary, S Fork Lone Tree Cr, dominate the northern half of the landscape, while the southern reaches are marked by the headwaters of N Fork Fox Cr and Fox Cr. These waterways are the primary landmarks in an area of sparse settlement, where the most significant infrastructure is the grid of county roads, such as Co RD 127 and Co RD 120, that facilitate travel across the vast sections of the Public Land Survey System.
