Livingston anchors the southwestern corner of this study, positioned where the southern agricultural grid of the San Joaquin Valley meets the winding path of the Merced River. The landscape is a complex network of water management, defined by numerous laterals and canals such as the Livingston Canal, Arena Canal, and Cressey Lateral. These waterways sustain a dense checkerboard of orchards and fields that extend through the small communities of Ballico, Cressey, and Cortez.
