The Diablo Range and the foothills of the San Joaquin Valley meet on this 2021 topographic survey of western Fresno County. The landscape is defined by the complex convergence of high ridges and deep canyons, including the Gavilan Ridge and Jacalitos Hills. While the terrain is primarily undeveloped, the presence of Parkfield Junction and the winding Parkfield Grade indicates the historical importance of these mountain passes for connecting the inland valley to the coastal ranges.
