Yellowstone National Park and portions of the Custer and Gallatin national forests meet along the high-elevation divide where Montana and Wyoming join. The landscape is defined by the peaks of the Absaroka Range, including Cutoff Mtn, Mt Abundance, and Meridian Peak. This area serves as a significant drainage basin, where the headwaters of the Stillwater River flow north while Pebble Cr and Soda Butte Cr carve deep through Soda Butte Canyon toward the south.
