Sandstone and the Sandstone Post Office anchor the southern portion of this Vernon County landscape, where the rural character is defined by a dense network of country roads and creek drainage systems. The terrain transitions from the open Handley Prairie in the north to the more broken ground near Rocky Hollow. Historically significant sites for researchers include several family and community burial grounds, such as Stepp Cemetery, Butler Cemetery, and Robinson Cemetery, which are scattered throughout the quadrangle.
