The Lewis & Clark National Forest spans this high-elevation landscape at the boundary of Cascade and Meagher Counties. Dominating the central terrain is Deep Creek Park, a high meadow area surrounded by the drainage networks of Deep Cr and its tributaries, including the N Fork Deep Cr and S Fork Deep Cr. The complex topography is defined by dramatic rises such as Deer Butte in the north and the prominent Desolation Peak to the south.
