Deer Trail serves as the primary hub of this High Plains landscape, where the town grid meets a network of local thoroughfares including 1st Ave, 3rd Ave, and S Price Rd. The topography is defined by the subtle drainage basins of several watercourses that carve through the prairie, most notably the Middle Bijou Cr and E Bijou Cr. These streams are accompanied by numerous seasonal drainages such as Wilson Creek, Hay Gulch, and Willow Gulch, which dictate the placement of ranch roads and section lines.
