Beaver Dam State Park anchors the high-country landscape along the Nevada Utah border, where the terrain is defined by the complex drainages of Beaver Dam Wash. In the early 1970s, this area remained largely remote, accessible only via a network of Trail and Jeep Trail routes that navigated the steep descents of Deep Canyon and Rock Canyon. The presence of Holts Cabin and isolated Prospect sites suggests a history of cattle ranching and mineral exploration in the shadow of Julius Peak and Bunker Peak.
