Pleasant View Cem serves as a small anchor of local history in this expansive landscape of Las Animas County, where the high plains meet deep incisions of the Arkansas River basin. The geography is defined by dramatic drainage systems, most notably the Purgatoire River as it cuts through the Purgatoire Canyon in the northwestern corner of the sheet. These canyons are a prominent feature of the local topography, with Henry George Canyon, Perly Canyon, and Doss Canyon creating a complex network of dry washes and rugged breaks that descend toward the river's path.
