The South Fork Republican River cuts through the northwest corner of this Cheyenne County landscape, where the St Francis State Game Management Area borders the water. This 1970s survey documents a predominantly agricultural region defined by drainage systems like Drury Creek and West Fork Sand Creek. Evidence of earlier infrastructure is preserved in the path of the Old Railroad Grade near the river, signaling a shift in transportation patterns over the decades. Scattered throughout the townships of Wano and Benkelman are numerous small-scale markers of rural life, including the Lawn Ridge Cem and various isolated wells. A localized Gravel pit in the east suggests small-scale industrial activity alongside the traditional ranching and farming operations of the High Plains.
