The coastal interface of the Salish Sea and Puget Sound is defined here by the prominent curve of the Dungeness Spit, which shelters the waters of Dungeness Bay. The landscape transitions from these maritime environments into the fertile Dungeness Valley, where the Dungeness River and Matriotti Creek drain toward the coast. Significant portions of the shoreline are preserved within the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge, illustrating the balance between conservation and local development.
