The Orocopia Mountains and the Chuckwalla Mountains frame this desolate desert corridor in Riverside County. The landscape is defined by the extensive drainage systems of Salt Creek as it moves through the arid basin toward the Salton Sink. Significant historical transit markers are preserved in the path of the Bradshaw Trl, a vital nineteenth-century gold rush route that linked the San Bernardino area to the Colorado River. This 2018 survey also tracks the modern infrastructure of the Gas Line Rd and the Chocolate Mountains to the south. The convergence of these seasonal washes and historical trails illustrates the region's enduring role as a challenging but necessary passage through the Colorado Desert.
