Chambers Prairie and Rocky Prairie dominate this mid-century landscape south of Olympia, where a complex network of rail lines converges. The settlement of East Olympia serves as a central hub, while the Great Northern Railroad, Union Pacific Railroad, and Northern Pacific Railroad crisscross the northern and central sections. To the south, the Chicago Milwaukee St Paul and Pacific Railroad skirts the edge of Offutt Lake, connecting near Western Junction along the winding course of the Deschutes River.

The eastern portion of the quadrangle is largely defined by the Fort Lewis Military Reservation (Rainier Training Area), established over undulating terrain. Local life is centered around small crossroads like Kellys Korner and Fir Tree, and scattered water bodies including Patterson Lake and Tempo Lake. This 1959 survey, field-checked by the Army Map Service, captures the region at a time when industrial rail transport and military land use were primary features of the Thurston County geography.
