The Deschutes River and a complex web of Pacific Northwest rail lines define this landscape south of the state capital during the late 1950s and 1960s. The settlement of East Olympia serves as a central hub where the Union Pacific Railroad and Great Northern Railroad converge on the flat expanses of Chambers Prairie. Further south, the Chicago Milwaukee St Paul and Pacific Railroad cuts through Rocky Prairie, meeting the other lines at Western Junction.
