Presque Isle Stream and its many tributaries, including Grendell Brook and Whitney Brook, define this Aroostook County landscape. To the east, the terrain rises sharply toward the peaks surrounding Echo Lake, where North Peak, South Peak, and the uniquely named Quaggy Joe overlook the water. These prominent elevations, alongside Green Mtn, stand in contrast to the agricultural and timber-linked settlements of Grindstone and Deadmans Corner. The southern portion of the map is dominated by the East Branch Pinnacles, where the headwaters of the E Br Presque Isle Stream and W Br Presque Isle Stream converge. This 2014 survey documents a region where the traditional rural road network, including Carvell Rd and Chapman Rd, serves a landscape still largely dictated by its complex hydrography and ridge lines.
