Elephant Mountain and the western edge of the Jarilla Mountains anchor this high desert landscape in Otero County. This 2017 survey reflects the restricted infrastructure of the White Sands Missile Range, where access is defined by specialized routes such as Wsmr S Rt 252 and Wsmr P Rt 2. Water management in this arid environment is represented by isolated catchments including Flying Eagle Tank and the McNew Feeder Tank. The transition between the open basin floor and the rising slopes of the Jarilla range is clear, with the Oregrande Range Camp Rd skirting the southern elevations. This area remains largely undeveloped, serving as a corridor for military operations and range management.
