Eli stands as the primary settlement on this landscape straddling the Nebraska and South Dakota border. The terrain is defined by a complex network of depressions and rises, featuring several bodies of water including Winslow Lake, Nelson Lake, and Clubhouse Lake to the north. Further south, the ground transitions toward the more level Connely Flat. This 2014 survey documents the path of Us-20, the major east-west artery through the Sandhills region, which bisects the quadrangle. Below the highway, the meandering course of Bear Cr carves through the landscape, illustrating the drainage patterns that define the local geography. The proximity of the state line between South Dakota and Nebraska and the division between Bennett and Cherry counties highlights the jurisdictional significance of this rural rangeland.
