About this map

Elk Basin and the northern reaches of Powell define this landscape in northern Park County, where the high plains meet the Montana border. The terrain is dominated by the prominent Polecat Bench, a massive landform that stretches across the southern portion of the quadrangle. Drainage patterns are carved by Silver Tip Cr and the various forks of Cottonwood Cr, including Cottonwood Draw and Little Cottonwood Draw. Modern transportation infrastructure is evident in the presence of the Powell Municipal Airport and a network of rural routes such as Rd 1 Ng and Rd 10d. This survey illustrates the modern intersection of aviation, ranching, and the natural topography of the Bighorn Basin.
