Elk Peak anchors this corner of the Coast Range at the boundary of Coos and Douglas counties. The terrain is defined by a dense network of timber-access routes and fire roads, including Dean Ridge Rd and several National Forest Development roads, tracing the high ground of Scholfield Ridge and Umpcoos Ridge. The drainage pattern is complex, with the W-Fork Millicoma River and its tributaries such as Kellogg Cr and Deer Cr carving through the steep topography.
