The Paradise Range dominates this portion of the Toiyabe National Forest, where high desert terrain meets a legacy of Great Basin mining. Silver and gold prospecting is evident throughout the rugged canyons, with clusters of activity around the Ellsworth settlement and the Esta Buena Mine. The landscape is a network of steep drainages, including Flagstaff Canyon and Germany Canyon, which descend toward the broad Lodi Valley to the west.
