Ennis serves as the primary hub of this high-altitude valley, situated along the western banks of the Madison River. The settlement pattern here is defined by the river’s braided course and the extensive water management systems like Granger Ditch and H Lazy Ditch, which support the local agriculture. To the east, the Cedar Creek Alluvial Fan marks a significant geologic transition where Cedar Cr descends from the highlands toward the valley floor near Jeffers.
