Escabosa and its neighboring mountain settlements sit within a complex landscape of deep canyons and timbered slopes on the eastern flanks of the Manzanita Mountains. This contemporary survey reveals a network of residential developments characterized by celestial and avian street names, such as Milky Way and Mockingbird Hill Rd, which have been carved into the terrain surrounding Ponderosa Pine. The southern portion of the map transitions into the protected woodlands of the Cibola National Forest, where the topography becomes increasingly fractured by numerous drainages including Cañon de Oso and Cañon de Chillili.
