1997 Map of Eureka Basin

About this map

The Gravelly Range dominates this landscape within the Beaverhead National Forest, where the divide between the Madison River and the Ruby River watersheds is sharply defined. The high-altitude terrain of the Eureka Basin is marked by a complex network of seasonal drainage, including Poison Creek, Shovel Cr, and Murphy Creek. Human presence is largely defined by forestry and resource management, anchored by the West Fork FS Station and the West Fork Rest Area. Evidence of small-scale extraction appears at an Adit and Mine near the basin, while the remote character of the region is emphasized by numerous isolated water sources like Lone Willow Spring and Fish Creek Lake. The Gravelly Range Rd provides the primary passage through this high-country environment.
