About this map

The Ouachita River corridor defines this landscape at the intersection of Ashley and Union counties in Arkansas and Morehouse Parish in Louisiana. During the early 1980s, the region was undergoing a major hydrological transformation, notably marked by the Felsenthal Lock and Dam (Under Construction) and the existing Lock and Dam No 6. This watery environment, much of which is encompassed by the Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge, is characterized by a complex network of sloughs and lakes like Wildcat Lake, Mossy Lake, and Coffee Prairie Lake.
