Whitman National Forest dominates the high-altitude landscape of this northeastern Oregon survey, where the border of Union and Baker counties crosses a network of seasonal snowmobile routes and water sources. The terrain is defined by prominent peaks and ridges including Mule Peak, Flagstaff Butte, and Four Point Ridge, while numerous springs such as Huckleberry Spring, Argenti Spring, and Bazine Spring dot the mountain slopes. The map reveals a specialized winter economy through its extensive system of trails like the Cold Spring Loop Snowmobile and the Velvet Creek Snowmobile route. Evidence of water management for the surrounding valleys is found in the S Catherine Ditch and Big Cr Ditch, which divert alpine runoff. Flatlands are scarce among the draws, though Taylor Green and Gravel Flat provide rare level ground amidst the steep drainages of S Fork Catherine Cr and Velvet Cr.
