Whitman National Forest dominates this high-country landscape along the border of Union and Baker Counties in northeast Oregon. The terrain is defined by steep ridges and narrow drainage basins, notably around Flagstaff Butte and Four Point Ridge. A network of water sources, including Sufferin Smith Spring and Huckleberry Spring, supports the high-elevation ecosystem, while the headwaters of South Fork Catherine Creek and Big Creek carve deep through the forest floor.
