Conchas Ranch sits at the center of this high-altitude landscape in San Miguel County, where the Conchas River carves a winding path through the mesa country. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevation shifts, from the heights of Yegua Mesa and Mesa Montosa down into the deep recesses of Conchas Canyon and Harris Canyon. These canyons and hills, including Vivian Hill, dictate the sparse settlement patterns of the region, where water sources like Harris Tank and Nafas Lake are critical landmarks. In the northeastern corner, the small settlement of Tuloso lies near Cañada Tuloso, marking one of the few named community points in an area otherwise dominated by the landforms of Flagstone Mtn and the seasonal flows of Salitre Cr. The map illustrates the complex drainage systems that feed into the Conchas basin, reflecting the remote ranching character of northern New Mexico.
