Routt National Forest dominates this high-elevation landscape, where the summit of Floyd Peak serves as a central landmark for a complex network of drainage basins and alpine trails. The terrain is defined by the headwaters of numerous waterways, including the Elk River in the northwest and Roaring Fork Cr, which carves through the central portion of the quadrangle. A cluster of alpine water bodies including Fish Hawk Lake, Lake Edward, Snowstorm Lake, and Lake Margaret are tucked into the southeastern corner, connected by the Fish Hawk Trail.
