About this map

The boundary between Lincoln and Chaves Counties cuts across the lower southern reaches of this landscape, defining the transition between administrative territories in a region characterized by deep canyon systems. Border Hill rises as a central landmark amidst a series of drainages, including Pine Tree Canyon and the aptly named Crooked Canyon. To the northeast, the topography is carved by Twin Butte Canyon and Little Twin Butte Canyon, features that illustrate the complex hydrologic pattern of this New Mexico interior. In the southwest corner, the winding path of Crooked Creek provides a rare riparian feature, while access is provided by county roads Co RD e028 and Co RD e032. The map also captures several distinct landmarks named Monument Canyon on both the eastern and western edges, suggesting a recurring terrain type across the township lines.
