The high elevations of the Ruby Mountains dominate this landscape, where steep canyons and sharp peaks define the boundary of the Humboldt National Forest. In the northern reaches, King Peak and the Indian Graveyard Basin overlook a network of high-country drainages including Rattlesnake Cr and Overland Cr. This 2018 survey illustrates the stark transition from these alpine heights down into the western edge of Ruby Valley, where the terrain flattens significantly near Rock House.
